Improving Flow Measurement Using PLC Based Flow Computing

This paper explores the use and benefits of embedding hydrocarbon flow computer technology into programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for integrated measurement, control, and communications. Accurate measurement of hydrocarbon gases and liquids using industry measurement standards is vital for process control systems, leak detection, and the transfer of product between two parties, more commonly known as custody transfer. As the complexity and scale of energy systems increase, automation technologies become more important for production efficiency and controlling costs. Process control engineers now have new innovative automation technologies for flow measurement, control and data management.

Live Wireless Demo

I am sure by now you have heard how wireless networking offers a new level of flexibility for users and can be a huge cost saver, but with confidence growing in un-tethered communications it seems like every automation vendor on the planet has a wireless product…so how do you select the right products for your application? How do you overcome the knowledge gap in a very different, diverse kind of technology?

This brief instructional video aims to ease your wireless concerns by showing you how painless the process can be. You will be provided with a start-to-finish view of the product selection and integration process, beginning with the design of a test network, including the generation of a network diagram and full parts list using our four-step ProSoft Wireless Designer software; you will see the sites and installation involved in our test; and you will receive a walk through demonstration of a radio configuration using the ProSoft Configuration Builder.

Learn how the right tools and products can make all the difference in your experience when integrating wireless into your application.

RadioLinx 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz Wireless

Available June

RLX-IB9E Industrial Broadband Radio

ProSoft Technology’s new 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz license-free Frequency Hopping Ethernet radios are the fastest frequency hopping radios on the market. Each is equipped with 128 bit AES encryption for security, a full 1 Watt of power, and programmable frequencies for flexibility. The 900 MHz radios provide the speed and power needed for long range SCADA applications or applications with challenging paths, including penetration of foliage and walls. The 2.4 GHz radios use an international unlicensed frequency and can be used when 900 MHz is not allowed.
  • 900 MHz Industrial Frequency Hopping Ethernet (RLX-IFH9E): 1.1 Mbps RF data rate, Ethernet and RS-232/485 serial device server, 30+ miles range**
  • 900 MHz Industrial Frequency Hopping serial (RLX-IFH9S): 19.2 to 230 kbps RF data rate, 30+ miles range**
  • 2.4 GHz Industrial Frequency Hopping Ethernet (RLX-IFH24E): 1.1 Mbps, International frequency, 15+ miles range**
  • 2.4 GHz Industrial Frequency Hopping serial (RLX-IFH24S): 19.2 to 230 kbps, 15+ miles range**
**Point-to-point with high gain directional antennas and clear line of site

In-rack Liquid and Gas Flow Computers

In-rack flow computers

The new 2.05 version upgrade has been released for the inRAx line of flow computers for Rockwell Automation platforms. The new version incorporates a Modbus Dictionary that indexes the Modbus tags and their definitions for quick reference. The AFC flow computers are equipped with support for multiple streams (8-16 meter runs with 4 streams per meter) and allows the PLC/PAC to switch the active stream via the module over the backplane of the controller. A Modbus Master port allows users to poll data from a remote chromatograph device.

Modbus-to-DF1 Gateway

Modbus-to-DF1 Gateway

Our Modbus to DF1 communication module was one of our most popular products for 2007. The 5102-MCM4-DFCM4 creates a powerful connection between Modbus Master/Slave and DF1 Master/Slave networks and devices. The gateway is stand-alone with DIN-rail bracket, and offers four individually configurable serial ports. The module can be used as a data concentrator by configuring all four ports for the same protocol, or it can be used to bridge the DF1 and Modbus networks by sharing the module’s database between two protocols.
