Ford Motor Company increases paint-shop production by 53% using Rockwell Automation EtherNet/IP and ProSoft Technology industrial wireless solutions

Ford Motor Company (FMC or Ford) produces Mondeo and Focus cars for the Russian market at its Vsevolozhsk facility in Saint Petersburg. But, the plant paint shop was a production bottleneck and needed revamping. Ford engineers envisioned increasing communication speed and peak bandwidth, as well as reducing maintenance downtime, as the road to increased production. A RadioLinx wireless network became the key to a successful solution.

ProSoft Goes Green!

In order to reduce our footprint on the environment, we have migrated the packaging used for our RadioLinx and ProLinx products to a significantly smaller, more biodegradable material. Product boxes contain no dyes and are manufactured through greener processes. The new product insulation is smaller, more efficient, and made primarily of paper. The new insulation will replace foam insulation, effectively eliminating approximately 760 cubic feet of foam from waste per year.

New BACnet™ and LonWorks™ Gateway Solutions

Energy management is a priority for every organization, and many organizations already have the control infrastructures in place to integrate the required data and efficiently control energy usage. Controllers such as CompactLogix, ControlLogix, and M340 require additional communication modules to interface with specialty building protocols such as BACnet, LonWorks and Metasys N2. QuickServer gateways provide the communication solution to interface with these networks via standard Ethernet or serial interfaces. This enables management of lighting control systems, energy management systems, HVAC, security and a variety of other building automation services, at even the enterprise level. This April, the QuickServer gateway line from FieldServer will be available from ProSoft Technology through our global distribution channel.

New Meter Prover Interface Functionality for Select Flow Computers

Version 2.07 controller-integrated flow computer modules for the ControlLogix (MVI56-AFC) or CompactLogix (MVI69-AFC) platforms now offer a prover interface, enabling the flow computers to calculate critical oil flow, mass, and volume calculations directly from a meter prover via the backplane. This feature enables complete automation of the meter proving process and enables its management from the user's SCADA control system.
