It is a brief interview talking about what ProSoft Technology is all about. Whether you personally knew Doug or only knew him by reputation, you will hear Doug’s passion for ProSoft and his “ProSoft family” come through clearly in the interview. Doug was not only a leader and a mentor, he was a great person. He personally tried to help me through some tough personal times on more than one occasion. I am forever grateful for everything he has done and everything he stood for. I am sure he is smiling down on everyone. God works in mysterious ways and I am sure Doug will always be around in spirit.

As I look through those that have sent their thoughts on this sight, I see many years of friends, family, and business associates that Doug touched through his life as a friend and and businessman. I had the pleasure, and Doug provided me the opportunity to work very close with him the last 6 months. I didn't know Mr. Sharratt nor his family, but when I opened up the July 28, 2008 edition I read obituary notice and was first struck by his smile and the references to the love for his family and the fact that he started a business in his garage some twenty years ago. Today,July 27th I received a phone call from my mother-in-law in Bakersfield about the loss of Doug. I was so stunned and shocked at the news. As many others here I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Doug's family and friends for this tragic loss. It's incredible to see the many nice comments given here for this great man I met 20 years ago. At that time he was married to Andrea and had two kids. I joined his new company Processed Unlimited and become part of the family. He was a great leader and set the tone for creating a fun and professional place to work. He progressed to creating Prosoft and sold the engineering business as found this to be his true passion. My wife, Marianne, worked for him then. He really touched our lives and today we spent grieving his loss and remembering the days we had together. I was engaged in a rather lively discussion on international affairs with other engineers in the break room one day last year a several months after joining the company. Doug walked in and sat down and joined the discussion. Its not all that rare for a company CEO to take part in an employee discussion once in a while but Doug's easy going manner and willingness to listen to other POV's rather than command direction of the discussion as many leaders in business tend to do really set him apart. "The news of Doug Sharratt's sad end has come as a great personal shock to me. I met him only once, in Malaysia, during a recent conference held there in the month of February this year. The prayers of myself, my family, and my friends are all with Becky and the kids at this time. I only knew Doug for a relatively short time, as my employer for the last four years. However I'd like to share a couple of stories that have stuck with me in that time, examples of what even such a short period in what is typically such a distant relation meant.

God sent Doug into my life at a very important time. I had no sooner resigned myself to working in my then-deadend job, barely able to support my family for the foreseeable future, when I got a call from ProSoft and in very short order found myself working as a Junior Technical Writer. As it would turn out, my very first major project happened to be one that Doug himself had taken a personal interest in. I'll never forget the fear of having prepared the first draft and having Stacie tell me, "Okay, go show it to Doug and see what he thinks." I walked through that door shaking (visibly, I'm sure), and he asked me to sit down at the table and we started going through the documents. After working with Doug for half an hour that day, the only thing I feared about working with him ever again was disappointing him.

Working in the IT field, you never have a shortage of family, friends, and their friends calling and asking computer questions. I'll always remember the time that Doug called me into his office, sat me down, and explained to me that I will from that point on inform these people that they need to pay for my services, but in such a way that it was fair to them, and fair to me, and then explained how I could go about it. He continued to bring this up on occassion, stressing "Fair to them, and fair to yourself."

Doug was every good thing that everyone has said about him thus far. It is not often you can truthfully say that about someone. For those of us at ProSoft, he took a personal interest not only in our work, and making sure we had what we needed and were in a position to move ahead, but also our personal lives, triumphs, and hardships. He genuinely cared about whatever we cared about, from his senior management, to the brand new junior technical writers.

These are two small examples of every day in his life. I think examples like these remind those of us who knew him, and show those of you that didn't, just what kind of man he was. We will all miss him, but we have also all learned things from him that will stick with us forever.

Doug’s quick thinking and “can do” attitude brought product to market in weeks or months where the corporate development would have been months or years if ever. The products also worked without fail. Doug was always quick with a smile and kind words. He brightened every room he entered. I don’t know if he even could get angry. It didn’t seem to matter to him what your status in life was he treated you as an equal. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able know him.

Over ten years ago, on one of my first trips to US, I met Doug for the first time. All of you who worked with Doug know that he had a remarkable way of inspire the rest of us with his intellectual brightness and charm but also with being a humble and down to earth person. I still remember how surprised I was at my first Prosoft visit when I had to navigate in the old Prosoft office searching for a cubical with a “Doug” nameplate, not what I expected from a President of the company! But after knowing Doug better I knew that he was a playing coach, enjoying being involved the in daily pulse of the business. Since this first meeting a long time ago I have met Doug many times and realized that even if we came from different parts of the world we have exactly the same view of business culture and values in life. Over the years our company and Prosoft have had a rich relationship, having Prosoft both as good customer and a friendly and fair competitor. Doug was always involved, direct or indirect, showing interest in the businesses, discussing technical solutions and engaging himself and his team. Even if Doug spent a lot of effort and time building up Prosoft to the success of today, he always talked about his family and how fortunate he was to have them. To all of you at Prosoft, We vacation at Sunriver every year but this year, the tragic death of your CEO has saddened everyone here. We saw the fire engines racing toward the airport and I asked my teenage son to pray with me that where ever they were going, everyone would be alright. . Unfortunately when my husband called and told us what had happened, we realized our prayers were too late and he had already gone to be with the Lord.. So now we pray for the family and all of your who must be hurting so badly. My parents had a small plane and flew up from the Bay Area many times, it could just have easily been them. I can only imagine the pain of the family he left behind. We're so, so sorry. We just wanted you to know that so many others here in Sunriver have been touched by this tragedy. I met Doug Sharratt many years ago when he hired me fresh out of college as an electrical draftsman. Doug was a very talented engineer, a great friend and he made his work place fun.
