Wee Keat Ng - Wednesday, August 6, 2008 I'm terribly sad to have just heard the news today of Doug's passing. As I look through those that have sent their thoughts on this sight, I see many years of friends, family, and business associates that Doug touched through his life as a friend and and businessman. I remember the first time I met Doug. He was opperating Processes Unlimited out of his garage on Castro Lane. In those beginings and all the way to current times, Doug had big vision, vision that touched many lives in many different ways. He will be truly missed. Blessing and condolences to his entire family, employees, and friends. Gene Gregor - Monday, August 4, 2008 Becky and family, my deepest condolences for your tragic loss. You and the rest of mankind lost one of the best. Perhaps the best I have ever met. I had the pleasure, and Doug provided me the opportunity to work very close with him the last 6 months. Not nearly long enough to learn and experience all the gifts he had to offer, but enough to realize he was one of a kind. He had an incredible personality, unmatched people skills, and a fascinating ability to recognize the smallest details. Throughout our travels together he always treated everyone with the same humble kindness and professionalism regardless if he talked to a president of a company or the valet kid in the hotel. He is an inspiration for my professional and personal life. I am thankful he moved me to Bakersfield to allow me to be part of his dream to help grow and support the Prosoft family. Haifa, Israel CompuLab Ltd., Haifa, Israel - Wednesday, July 30, 2008 I didn't know Mr. Sharratt nor his family, but when I opened up the July 28, 2008 edition I read obituary notice and was first struck by his smile and the references to the love for his family and the fact that he started a business in his garage some twenty years ago. I found that through-out the day I thought of him and his family so I went to his companies website and wanted to leave a note about how wonderful it is to read about someone's employee's loving their boss/mentor and their company. No words can soothe but a legacy lives on forever. Tracy Lovelace - Tuesday, July 29, 2008 I am shocked and very sorry to find out about Mr. Doug Sharratt’s passing away due to a plane crash. Dough is one of the most brilliant, sincere, generous, down to earth and respectable person who I have ever met during my employment at ProSoft. How can such tragedy happen to a person like him. The only answer I can think of is God is in need of a person like Mr.Doug Sharrat in heaven for a special mission. I will pray for Mr. Dough Sharret and his family during this difficult time and hope for a brighter day ahead to his family. Danh Le - Tuesday, July 29, 2008 Doug’s graciousness and love has touched me also. One of the most touching moments that I experienced was during his 50 birthday party celebration. He served me and some of the people next to me his birthday cake. To me that demonstrated a character of a man that deeply cares for all the people that somehow touch his life. Neven Grgas - Tuesday, July 29, 2008 I always remeber Doug to be a very nice person and a great guy who made working for him easy and fun. I enjoyed my time at ProSoft. Cindy Meek, St. Francis Parish School - Monday, July 28, 2008 I remember when my dad was building some sort of circuit board in the 80's, Doug was helping him quite a bit at that time. I know Doug was always helpful to my dad during those days in his own garage. May God grant the Sharratt family with peace as they come together to celebrate a truly great man. Mark Hall (Rocky's son) - Monday, July 28, 2008 Its been over a week since we first got the news, and we still find it hard to believe. I think back to the days when Doug and I dreamed up the idea of a products based company and the challenges of getting ProSoft off the ground....those were fun and exciting times and I wouldn't trade those experiences and memories for the world. Doug was my friend and my mentor and we will truely miss him. I have never worked with a man so in tune with doing the right thing....not just some of the time, but all of the time. For him, while it sounds cliche, people mattered. To Doug's family and the friends we left behind in Bakersfield, we feel your pain and send you all our deepest prayers. May God Bless and keep you all! Derryl & Michele Pitts - Rockwell Automation - Monday, July 28, 2008 Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Horacio and Ljubica Asbun - Monday, July 28, 2008 I have only known Doug for 3 years, but during my first conversation with him, I knew he was special. I was pregnant with my first child and he was so interested and told me what a wonderful adventure I was beginning. He put my mind at ease and his love for his wife and children was so obvious. I know it must be so difficult now for the family, but knowing you were loved by such a wonderful man will live on in your hearts forever. May God Bless you Becky, the children, and everyone at ProSoft. Suzanne Kerner - Rockwell Automation - Monday, July 28, 2008 I was sorry to hear about your loss. The world is better off for having a man like Doug Sharratt Student, UCSD - Sunday, July 27, 2008 Today,July 27th I received a phone call from my mother-in-law in Bakersfield about the loss of Doug. I was so stunned and shocked at the news. As many others here I want to send my thoughts and prayers to Doug's family and friends for this tragic loss. It's incredible to see the many nice comments given here for this great man I met 20 years ago. At that time he was married to Andrea and had two kids. I joined his new company Processed Unlimited and become part of the family. He was a great leader and set the tone for creating a fun and professional place to work. He progressed to creating Prosoft and sold the engineering business as found this to be his true passion. My wife, Marianne, worked for him then. He really touched our lives and today we spent grieving his loss and remembering the days we had together. We all here are truly grateful to having been a part of his life and celebrate that life he shared with us. Becky and kids I will pray for you to find the strength to deal with this great loss. Regards Jayaharan C J Manager- Automation Projects Ramco Systems Limited India Jayaharan C J - Thursday, July 24, 2008 "Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end."- Scott Adams Such is true about the life of our boss/co-worker/friend. Not everyone had the same pleasure and honor as we have had here at ProSoft to be blessed by someone as wonderful as Doug. Even though he was our boss, he did not have that mentality he was just one of us, our FRIEND! Truly one of the most humble men I’ve ever known. He genuinely cared about each and every one of us here at ProSoft and was an extremely dedicated and loving husband and father. Our thoughts and prayers are with Becky and the kids! Thanks for giving us all the opportunity to work for such a great company and man! We will continue your legacy! Jennifer Kominski. ~AKA: Trouble (thanks for the nickname Doug!) Keep strong in your faith and may you soon find some peace, once the anger has subsided, so that you can truly embrace the time shared with Doug and chronicle the memories for his legacies (his children). Becky you are strong and will survive despite how desperate you must feel right now... We have seen it first hand with my sister Traci. God bless you all. Lots of Love from The Macedo's (David, Tina, Alexandra and David John) Tina & David Macedo - Thursday, July 24, 2008 I was engaged in a rather lively discussion on international affairs with other engineers in the break room one day last year a several months after joining the company. Doug walked in and sat down and joined the discussion. Its not all that rare for a company CEO to take part in an employee discussion once in a while but Doug's easy going manner and willingness to listen to other POV's rather than command direction of the discussion as many leaders in business tend to do really set him apart. I am sorry I wasn't able to know him better than I did, and I'm better for knowing him at all. Bill - Thursday, July 24, 2008 Be assured of our thoughts and prayers. Pastor Steve and Susan Duyst - Thursday, July 24, 2008 When I married Doug's father I was fortunate to have gained a stepson as well. India Madhukar Parikh - Tuesday, July 22, 2008 "The news of Doug Sharratt's sad end has come as a great personal shock to me. I met him only once, in Malaysia, during a recent conference held there in the month of February this year. He looked on all of us as his family members. Without any hesitation and quite from the heart I will say that I have not met a more handsome, enthusiastic, and ebullient person in my whole life till then. He was so full of life and spread his zeal and enthusiasm through sunshine smile to anyone who came in contact with him. After having started in a small way in a garage he, through his hard work, zeal and entrepreneurship took the PROSOFT to a height only achieved by few others. His demise is not only a loss to Prosoft but also for a company like ours who will cherish his memory for a long time to come. Strange are the ways of the Almighty who snatches away the likes of him in the middle of a prosperous and bubbling life! His loss therefore is like the loss of an elder brother. He always had time to ask about what was going on with my family. It was a relationship that was more like friends than a traditional business relationship. It was always very important to Doug that every employee was a part of the ProSoft family. When the going got tough he liked to roll up his sleeves and charge ahead. He was an inspiration to everyone around him. I am glad I got to know him and work for him as long as I did. My family's thoughts are with his family. Ken Hopwood & Family - Monday, July 21, 2008 Becky - Our hearts ache for you and the kids. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Hugo Amador & Family - ProSoft Technology - Mexico - Monday, July 21, 2008 I last spoke with Doug in March, where we took the time to catch up with one another after some time. His contentment was obvious as he recounted significant events, and when he spoke of his family, his incredible smile turned electric. There are many people who never accomplish a single one of the many impressive things Doug did. However, I think the thing I most admire is that, in the midst of tremendous professional responsibilities, Doug took the time to be happy and to share that with others. I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to know him and so very, very sorry for your loss. Kristin Baier, Rockwell Automation - Monday, July 21, 2008 I met Doug many years ago at a trade show. Bob and Val Lindsey and family - Sunday, July 20, 2008 The prayers of myself, my family, and my friends are all with Becky and the kids at this time. I only knew Doug for a relatively short time, as my employer for the last four years. However I'd like to share a couple of stories that have stuck with me in that time, examples of what even such a short period in what is typically such a distant relation meant. God sent Doug into my life at a very important time. I had no sooner resigned myself to working in my then-deadend job, barely able to support my family for the foreseeable future, when I got a call from ProSoft and in very short order found myself working as a Junior Technical Writer. As it would turn out, my very first major project happened to be one that Doug himself had taken a personal interest in. I'll never forget the fear of having prepared the first draft and having Stacie tell me, "Okay, go show it to Doug and see what he thinks." I walked through that door shaking (visibly, I'm sure), and he asked me to sit down at the table and we started going through the documents. After working with Doug for half an hour that day, the only thing I feared about working with him ever again was disappointing him. Working in the IT field, you never have a shortage of family, friends, and their friends calling and asking computer questions. I'll always remember the time that Doug called me into his office, sat me down, and explained to me that I will from that point on inform these people that they need to pay for my services, but in such a way that it was fair to them, and fair to me, and then explained how I could go about it. He continued to bring this up on occassion, stressing "Fair to them, and fair to yourself." Doug was every good thing that everyone has said about him thus far. It is not often you can truthfully say that about someone. For those of us at ProSoft, he took a personal interest not only in our work, and making sure we had what we needed and were in a position to move ahead, but also our personal lives, triumphs, and hardships. He genuinely cared about whatever we cared about, from his senior management, to the brand new junior technical writers. These are two small examples of every day in his life. I think examples like these remind those of us who knew him, and show those of you that didn't, just what kind of man he was. We will all miss him, but we have also all learned things from him that will stick with us forever. Raymond Williams - Sunday, July 20, 2008 My most sincere condolences to Doug's family, friends and co-workers. Sam Amaral - Sunday, July 20, 2008 Contel team in Israel send its deep condolences to the family and to all Prosoft employees. Contel Automation & Control Ltd. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with all at ProSoft Technology and Doug's family. Felix Ang Singapore - Saturday, July 19, 2008 Please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of Doug. He was a personal friend years ago when we were both 20-something engineers with Getty Oil Co. in the early 1980's. A favorite memory of him was when he showed up at my doorstep with suitcases to rent a room in a house I had just bought after his lease expired at another place. It was a genuine pleasure to have him as a housemate before he married and set up shop on his own. Obviously he rose well above that in the ensuing years. Doug was dependable and responsible to-a-fault. Although extremely intelligent, he didn't possess a singe arrogant bone in his body. We used him as an example of reliability to our daughter while she was growing up. It was indeed a shock to hear of his untimely passing. Doug and his wife Becky are in our prayers to the Lord. May He take care of him. Wayne & Therese Green, Houston TX - Saturday, July 19, 2008 Although we never met Doug, we know his parents. When Doug was our local ISA section Treasuer, for many years. He toched so many peoples lives by his smile and words of wisdom Ira Miller - Friday, July 18, 2008 It has been said when you show genuine interest in the well being of others, they are drawn to you. I found this to be very true in Doug. He was a man kind, humble, and gracious. He spoke with words 'seasoned with salt' that captivated the admiration of many people, myself included. I will always cherish seeing his glowing smile as he would walk by my desk and chat. My deepest heartfelt sympathies are with his family in this difficult time of distress. Please remember God is the 'Giver of Life' but yet 'time and unforseen occurences befall us all' (Ecc 9:11) But please rest assure that "God comforts us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God." I have known Doug since before he started in business and his early beginnings and at ISA which we both belonged. I sold automation equipment to Doug for Allen Bradley a company in which he was closley related to. Our entire industry and our ISA orginization will deeply miss our friend Doug. God bles you his family and friends, Chip Wickline Chip Wickline - Friday, July 18, 2008 I was saddened to read of Doug’s tragic accident. Sadder yet is the fact that there will be myriad of people that will be deprived by not every having the opportunity to interact with one of finest people they could ever meet. I met Doug while at Rockwell Drives back in the Allen-Bradley days of the early 90’s. Doug’s quick thinking and “can do” attitude brought product to market in weeks or months where the corporate development would have been months or years if ever. The products also worked without fail. Doug was always quick with a smile and kind words. He brightened every room he entered. I don’t know if he even could get angry. It didn’t seem to matter to him what your status in life was he treated you as an equal. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able know him. Val Budd - Logic, Inc. - Friday, July 18, 2008 On behalf of all of our employees, our deepest sympathies to Doug's family and his Prosoft "extended" family on this tragic event. Bowman - Friday, July 18, 2008 My condolences to the family. Cara and Michael are just two of Doug's cool kids. But they showed me much kindness while at ProSoft and beyond. I appreciate that Doug put up with me and Mike Willis while we goofed off so much right outside his office. He never complained, even while we were singing really poorly... RIP Mr. Sharratt. Nick Belardes - Journalist - Friday, July 18, 2008 Over ten years ago, on one of my first trips to US, I met Doug for the first time. All of you who worked with Doug know that he had a remarkable way of inspire the rest of us with his intellectual brightness and charm but also with being a humble and down to earth person. I still remember how surprised I was at my first Prosoft visit when I had to navigate in the old Prosoft office searching for a cubical with a “Doug” nameplate, not what I expected from a President of the company! But after knowing Doug better I knew that he was a playing coach, enjoying being involved the in daily pulse of the business. Since this first meeting a long time ago I have met Doug many times and realized that even if we came from different parts of the world we have exactly the same view of business culture and values in life. Over the years our company and Prosoft have had a rich relationship, having Prosoft both as good customer and a friendly and fair competitor. Doug was always involved, direct or indirect, showing interest in the businesses, discussing technical solutions and engaging himself and his team. Even if Doug spent a lot of effort and time building up Prosoft to the success of today, he always talked about his family and how fortunate he was to have them. It is so sad and unfair that he is longer with his family and our thoughts and minds goes to his wife and children. My deepest condolences to his family. I am so sorry for your loss of Doug. Staffan Dahlstrom, co-founder HMS Industrial Networks, Sweden - Friday, July 18, 2008 I am deeply saddened by this announcement. I knew Doug for a short time, but I found him charming, intelligent, and passionate. We shared a dinner recently. He hadn't known me for long, but he made me feel like an old friend. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and co-workers. I hope you can find strength in his legacy, the impact he left on those he touched, and the way he conducted his life. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Fred Cohn - Friday, July 18, 2008 It is regrettable to heard his death so as to express our deeply, endlessly sorrow feelings. Chuck Neukom - Friday, July 18, 2008 Doug, Thank you. On so many different levels, thank you. Thirteen years ago you took a chance and hired my wife who had no experience in your industry. In fact, 3-weeks after you hired her, she wanted to quit because she was thoroughly frustrated sorting “gazabi” and didn’t feel this was why she went to college. You told her to hang in there, and trust you. How right you were. You mentored her, and continued to inspire and challenge her to step outside her comfort zone. You helped her grow on so many levels and you are responsible for helping her become the wonderful person she is today. I also know that she is one of many you did this for. I have no doubt God welcomed you by saying “Well done my son.” You have left us longing for more Doug. Your legacy has been imprinted on so many people, and will continue to live on. We are praying for your family daily, and everyone will continue to lean on each other to get through this. Until we meet again my friend. Herbert Potocky - LADDER Automação - Rio de Janeiro Brasil - Friday, July 18, 2008 Sent out the the employees of Prousys on 7/16.... The loss of an icon in the Controls industry, Doug Sharratt Please join me in offering our condolences and prayers to Doug Sharratt and his extended family. He was killed early this AM while flying his plane on approach to Sunriver Airport in Oregon. Please offer your prayers to Becky and his children, Michael, Steven, Cara, Cameron, Taylor and Parker and the rest of his family during this incredibly painful time. For those of you who may not be aware Prousys owes its origin to Doug, the founder of Prosoft Technology. We are a spinoff of Processes Unlimited founded by Doug in 1987. As a engineer at Shell Oil Company I was attracted to Processes by Doug’s vision of what would soon become the largest Oil and Gas outsourcing opportunity in California history. Doug founded Prosoft in 1991, I bought the controls systems business and formed Prousys in 1996. Doug was the architect of the original communications protocol allowing disparate PLC’s to communicate. For those of you who have programmed you can understand that this single concept is what eventually propelled our industry into the 21st century. As Rockwell Automation would say, but not admit to, it was HUGE! Thank you Douglas……We love you! Kevin A.
