DH-485 to PROFIBUS DP Slave Communication Module5105-DH485-PDPS Product DescriptionThe ProLinx family DH-485 to PROFIBUS DP Slave communications module (5105-DH485-PDPS) creates a powerful connection between devices on a DH-485 network and a PROFIBUS DP master device. The module is a stand-alone DIN rail-mounted protocol gateway that provides one DH-485 configurable serial port and PROFIBUS DP Slave port. The ProLinx DH485 protocol driver supports the Master and the Slave modes of the protocol, providing powerful data transfer capability with Rockwell Automation PLCs and HMIs. User configurable data mapping make the interface an easy to use and powerful data transfer tool. The PROFIBUS DP Slave (PDPS) protocol interface supports the PROFIBUS V0 Slave implementation protocol, providing powerful data transfer capability between the ProLinx module and Siemens PLCs or other hosts. User configurable data mapping and DP port operation make the interface an easy to use and powerful data transfer tool. Product ApplicationsFunctional SpecificationsInternal DatabaseThe ProLinx module contains an internal database that consists of areas for application data, status information, and configuration information. The internal database is shared between all ports on the module and is used as a conduit to pass information from a device on one network to one or more devices on another network. Application Data AreaThe data area is used to store and retrieve data by the protocol drivers and for data exchange between protocols. The database is used as a source for write commands to remote devices and holds data collected from the remote devices. Commands defined in the configuration file (stored in the configuration data area) control how the data is to be handled in the database. Status Data AreaThis area is used to store error codes, counters, and port status information for each port. Configuration Data AreaThis area contains module configuration information such as port configuration, network information, and command configuration. This configuration file is downloaded to, or uploaded from, this area. DH485 Master/Slave Serial Port SpecificationsThe DH485 protocol in its native form is a peer to peer token passing network. The ProLinx DH485 driver accesses the network functioning either as a Master or as a Slave. In the Master mode, the ProLinx DH485 driver will actively gather data from other devices on the network, controlling the read/write data transfer between the gateway and other DH485 devices, such as SLC processors. When configured in this mode, data transfer can be initiated and executed with the other devices without any ladder logic being required in the Rockwell Automation slave hardware.
DH485 Slave ModeIn the Slave mode, the module accepts commands from one or more Masters to read/write data stored in the module's internal data memory. In this mode, the ProLinx unit is answering DH485 commands and has the appearance of an SLC processor to the network.
DH485 Master ModeIn the Master mode, the ProLinx DH485 driver will actively gather data from other devices on the network, controlling the read/write data transfer between the gateway and other DH485 devices, such as SLC processors. When configured in this mode, data transfer can be initiated and executed with the other devices without any ladder logic being required in the Rockwell Automation slave hardware. These commands are user-configured in the module via the master command list received from the configuration file. Command status is available in the status data block for each individual command in the command list status data area. The location of this status block in a module's internal database is user-defined.
PROFIBUS DP Slave SpecificationsThe PROFIBUS DP Slave driver gives access to the ProLinx unit's internal database via 200 bytes of Input data and 200 bytes of Output data. These Input and Output data blocks are mapped by the user within the ProLinx module's data memory allowing the user maximum flexibility and data transfer with other protocols.
Important Note: The slave node address is set to 126 by default in the module configuration file. The default node address must be changed to a valid address between 1-125 by the user for the slave to function on the PROFIBUS network. Hardware Specifications
