The Generic ASCII Serial Communication Module is a fast and easy way to add two fully configurable ASCII communication ports to the Schneider Electric Quantum platform without consuming the front port of the processor.
Features and Benefits
The PTQ-GSC module is a single slot, backplane compatible solution for the Quantum platform. This module has two powerful and fully configurable ASCII communication ports, each supporting the sending and receiving of large ASCII character strings. With the implementation of some supporting ladder logic in the processor, the many different devices supporting ASCII communications can be integrated into the Quantum platform.
General Specifications
- Single Slot - Quantum backplane compatible
- The module is recognized as an Options module and has access to PLC memory for data transfer
- Configuration data is stored in non-volatile memory in the ProTalk module
- Up to six modules can be placed in a rack
- Local rack - The module must be placed in the same rack as processor.
- Compatible with common Quantum / Unity programming tools.
- Quantum data types supported: 0x, 1x, 3x, 4x
- High speed data transfer across backplane provides quick data update times.
- Sample function blocks available.
Applications
The PTQ-GSC module is the ideal solution for the many applications where ASCII character communications must be added to the Quantum platform. Applications using the PTQ-GSC module can be found in many industrial sectors generally involving the following applications:
- Bar code scanner interfaces
- Weigh scale interfaces
- Legacy ASCII protocol connections
- Terminal port emulation
- Printer driver (alarm/status printer)
Functional Specifications
ASCII Communication ports 1 & 2 (PRT1, PRT2)
- Both ports are capable of transmitting and/or receiving ASCII character strings. Each port is individually configurable:
Termination types
- Baud rate: 110 to 115.2K baud
- RTS on/off timing: 0 to 65535 ms
- Minimum delay: 0 to 65535 ms
Handshaking (optional)
- Hardware: RTS/CTS, DTR/DSR
Module error and status conditions returned to processor for diagnostic purposes
- Port error status word (bit mapped)
- Port receive character count
- Port transmit character count
- Port transmit block count
All data related to the module is contained in a single controller tag with defined objects to ease in the configuration, monitoring and interfacing with the module
Module configuration and communication configuration data is transferred to the module via a predefined user data type in the processor.
