The Generic ASCII Ethernet Network Interface Module (MVI71-GEC) allows PLC processors to connect to any generic ASCII device such as bar code scanners, weigh scale interfaces, legacy ASCII protocol connections, terminal port emulation and printer drivers. The use of the TCP/IP protocol at the device level on the plant floor has become widespread. The MVI71-GEC takes advantage of Ethernet’s speed while also allowing greater distances between networked devices.
Five servers and clients are present on the module permitting both the reception and transmission of data between the Rockwell Automation processor and attached devices.
The MVI71-GEC module is a powerful communication interface for Rockwell Automation PLC processors. Developed under license from Rockwell Automation, the module incorporates proprietary backplane technology that enables powerful data access between the module and the PLC processor.
The use of the TCP/IP protocol with Ethernet at the device level on the plant floor is becoming widespread in many industry segments. Using the MVI71-GEC the advantage of Ethernet speed is realized while allowing greater distances between networked devices.
Rockwell Automation equipment that supports EPIC:
Support for PLC processor programming over Ethernet using a TCP/IP service and a serial port on the module connected to channel 0 of the processor. The module's third port emulates Channel 0 of the processor to pass through messages from the port to the processor
